"The sub-global assessments, of which this volume is one, a basic component of the MA [Millennium Ecosystem Assessment] initiative. ... Egypt's sub-global assessment, a part of the Arab Millennum Ecosystem Assessment, is a community-based assessment, conducted in the El Maghara area, North Sinai. A main objective of the assessment is to capture real life experience of changes in ecosystems and human well-being. The inhabitants of El Maghara area are among the poorest and least served in Sinai, and probably in Egypt. El Maghara also remains as one area in the whole of Sinai where pristine Bedouin culture and practices prevail."--Page 11. |
